That's right, I watched all of those things (ROTG, Frankenweenie, Hobbit, Gravity Falls) and more (Argo, Gargoyles, rewatched LOTR). It was a great winter vacation. Btw...
Happy New Year! To everyone!
I'd like to welcome all the new watchers and say thanks to everyone who's hanging around with me, despite my slow-mo reactions XD Hope all of you had a great Christmas and all that
A bit on those things I've watched, read, seen recently.
Rise of the GuardiansDose Pitch legs, seriously. Not only is that robe cut really really low, but he is wearing like tights under it...
The Rabbit/Jack Frost tension is just asking for it, like some people have noted.
Really enjoyed that movie. The only thing missing were songs. I love songs, but oh well, it's not Disney. I liked the Sandman best, such a badass motherhugger that one.

Gravity FallsUncle Stan. Uncle Satan. Uncle Stan.

Also I was sure Soos is Zeus until we checked XD Mabel is amazing too, she's probably the character that makes the show. One of the best animated series I've seen recently, definitely best from Disney. That animation is a feast for the eyes and the nostalgia and humor are strong in that one.
The HobbitMuch much better than the LOTR movies. Elves look like elves, dwarf women have beards, colorful and vivid imagery! Del Toro saved the day, I mean just look at that dwarf city, look at it. Look at them dwarves! Watson made a surprisingly nice Bilbo, I didn't think of him as Watson at all, that's a great actor. There is a bunch of things that are not like in the books, but as far as movies made after books go, this is a really great movie! I don't know what people are complaining about (those that are complaining). I watched it without 3D and the image was fine, so I have no negative impressions at all. Even though I did not like how the scene with the trolls was handled, I can forgive that. The scene with Gollum was amazing! Also [SPOILER] Radagast! That's such a nice compensation for the lack of Bombadil in LOTR movies. He was perhaps a bit too silly, but he had to work for both of them XD(I mean himself and Bombadil). Also they even kept some of the songs.
The world is now a better place.
FlyingCarpets bought me a Gollum+Bilbo Lego set. And guess what: there were TWO of the One Ring. We died. And then we did this ->

I have to admit though, the LOTR movies were better than I remembered them, so it's not like they were a cinematic disaster XD I simply enjoyed the Hobbit much more even though I would have preferred many things handled differently, I understand Hollywood could have done much much worse and what I saw was amazing by Hollywood standards.
Next journal will focus on the Silmarillion.
